Podcasting has revolutionized the way we consume content. The photo industry has utilized the art form, leading to an array of podcasts being available within the niche. Similar to our selection of the best photography magazines, we’re helping you find a photography podcast that suits you, sharing our selection of the best photography podcasts.

Before we get into the selection, I want to make a quick disclaimer. I have been a guest (or I’m due to be a guest) on some of the shows I mention below. As someone who only goes on podcasts I consume myself, you can trust I can recommend them, not because of a symbiotic relationship, but because they’re awesome.

This selection is based on opinion and taste. There are so many photography podcasts available that it’s impossible to list them all. If a podcast isn’t mentioned, it doesn’t mean they’re not good. Also, if you think there are other shows that belong on a selection of the best photography podcasts, please let me know in the comments. Right, let’s get into it.

Key Thoughts

  • Podcasts are a great source of inspiration, giving you the enthusiasm to pick up your camera and create.

  • Hosts put in lots of hours to deliver the best content, so it’s a good idea to show them your support.

  • The most interesting podcasts go beyond hosting photographers, also focusing on other roles in the industry, plus other types of creatives.

What are the best photography magazines in 2024?

The United Nations of Photography: A Photographic Life

A Photographic Life is a podcast made by Grant Scott, the founder of The United Nations of Photography. It’s one of the best photography podcasts because it goes deep into the topic. Guests include photo editors, photographers and those working in other areas of the industry. It boasts over 300 episodes and has been a source of learning for many in the community.

Frames Podcast

I was a guest on the Frames Podcast in the latter part of 2023. The host, W. Scott Olsen is full of enthusiasm for the craft and always does a deep dive into the photographers he interviews. It’s a great podcast to learn about a photographer's creative process, and also how they think and feel about the world.

Streetlife Podcast

Made down-under, Australian-based duo John St and Mark Davidson cover all things street photography. The structure of the show is great, often starting with some thoughts and feelings the pair have about all that’s going on in street photography. Their selection of guests is top-notch, most notably interviewing Martin Parr, Phil Penman and Julia Coddington, plus many more established names in the industry.

The Photowalk Podcast

The Photowalk Podcast is a wonderfully original concept, which is why it’s one of my favorite photography podcasts. The show centers around the benefits of walking with your camera, seeing the world and capturing it. The host, Neale James, will often record while out on a walk, and guests often include photographers who enjoy adventure. James also shares the work of his listeners, who are encouraged to share images from their own photo walks.

The Life of Phys

The Life of Phys is a relative newcomer to the photography podcast world. I’m due to be on as a guest later this year. I was attracted to the podcast because I like the style of the host Tyson Martin. He has the ability to unlock a photographer, and help them delve into the benefits photography gives them, especially pertaining to mental health. The show often extends beyond photographers, also featuring other types of artists and creatives.

Why support the best photography podcasts?

The people behind the above podcasts put a lot of time and effort into delivering you content. Beyond the time it takes to record a show, the work also involves hours of research and communication with guests.

Most importantly, the best photography podcasts serve you. They inspire you to pick up your camera, teach you how to use it and help you evolve on your own photographic journey. They’re truly inspiring and you should take the time to support and listen to each of the podcasts above - don’t forget to share your favorites in the comments!
