Them Frames’ Favorite Photographers in 2022

In the short time Them Frames has been alive, the publication has had the privilege of highlighting the work of photographers from all around the world. It’s been an honor. People from over 79 countries have enjoyed world class photographs, while also learning more about the people that made them. In this article, we highlight 10 of our favorite photographers in 2022.

We’ll start this article by saying favorite doesn’t translate to best. Each photographer we have interviewed in 2022 has brought exceptional value, and their work deserves to be held in the same merit as each of the photographers below.

However, we connect to stories at specific times in life and, for a range of reasons, we connected to the below selection of photographers the most. Let’s take a look.

Samantha Cavet

The first reaction we had when we saw the photography of Samantha Cavet was “how does she do this?” Her works are like photographic paintings and their stories are best described as poetic. Born in Venezuela, Caveat left her home country at a young age. She’s had to take her time perfecting her art, and it feels like this year her hard work and creativity are paying off. She’s one of the few self portrait photographers whose work is worthy of being on the wall, without it feeling creepy. That’s because while showing herself to the world, she is doing so in such an artistic fashion. Check out the full interview with Joanna Canara.

Alex Massek

Alex Massek is a portrait photographer who doesn’t have a one size fits all approach. Instead, he takes the time to understand his subjects, getting the most out of who they are through the frames he creates. He’s also one of the most business savvy photographers working today, and he’s had great success both with his personal work and his creative agency. Photographers can certainly learn a lot from him. Mental illness is a difficult topic to cover, especially through photography. And yet, the photographer Kylie Shaw Williams has done an exceptional job of tackling the subject, not once, but twice. Her images are thought provoking and the message she is sending is clear “let’s make it easier to talk about our mental health.” In one of the most moving projects we covered in 2022, Williams’ works proved to be popular with our readers. YuYu

Taiwanese photographer YuYu brings the same level of energy to his photography as he does with his personality. He’s a fun individual that clearly enjoys creating his self portraits. However, beyond his bubbly personality, he’s also creating work that challenges what we know about historical art. He does it in such a way that we respect and enjoy, and his portfolio is truly awesome! Check out the full interview with YuYu.

We love multiple exposures at Them Frames. Combining different scenes to create a new world makes for some excellent photography. There’s few better at using this technique than the photographer Alipriya Ghosh. Her portfolio is imaginative, a little spooky, and often otherworldly. Her subjects are never the same either, leading to a body of work full of diversity. Check out the full interview with Alipriya Ghosh.

Fuckthatnoise shoots on film, sources awesome subjects and also promotes fairness in the photo industry. That’s why we love her and the work she creates. She seldom spends time editing her photographs, and that’s because she doesn’t need to. Her talents ensure she gets it all right in the camera, and that’s even more impressive considering she’s only been in the game for a handful of years. Check out the interview with Fuckthatnoise.
